Our HIGH 5 Soccer program

HIGH 5 Soccer is a fun program for players with special needs.
Once a week, players pair up with a teen or adult buddy for soccer-based activities and games that are adapted to their abilities.

HIGH 5 focuses on 5 elements:

Teamwork | self-esteem | sportsmanship | respect | fun
Your child will:

  • Develop a sense of belonging to a community
  • Learn the value of being part of a team
  • Gain improved self-esteem, fitness and social skills

Your family can expect:

  • A fun and meaningful experience for you and your child
  • Games and activities adapted to ensure your child’s participation
  • A safe and healthy environment
  • Opportunities to network with other families

As a HIGH 5 parent you need to:

  • Provide transportation to and from all sessions
  • Stay on the sidelines during sessions
  • Lend support in a positive manner

  • Buddy training for new and returning buddies: Saturday, March 15, 3:00-4:15 pm, Upper Uwchlan Township Building, 140 Pottstown Pike, Chester Springs
  • HIGH 5 sessions are on Saturdays, 3:00-4:00 pm, April 5 – May 31
  • All HIGH 5 sessions take place at Fellowship Field #1, 240 Fellowship Road, Chester Springs.
  • Remember to bring a water bottle and dress your player in sneakers and comfortable clothes.
  • If your Player is new to HIGH 5, Coach Matt will call you before the season starts to introduce himself and answer any questions you might have about the program.

When does the season start? Expand

The spring season usually runs April to June. The fall season usually runs September to November. Check the HIGH 5 page for specifics. If your child is a new HIGH 5 player, Coach Matt will call you before the season begins to introduce himself and explain the program.

What does my child need to play? Expand

Your player will get a HIGH 5 t-shirt on their first day that they should wear to every session, along with comfortable clothes and sneakers. They can wear cleats and/or shin guards if they want to, but they are not required. Bring a bottle of water for your player. We provide juice and a snack after the session. If your child has a dietary restriction, please let us know and we will try to accommodate it.

What is the cost? Expand

There is no cost. HIGH 5 is free to all participants thanks to donations and GEYA Soccer.

What is the age range for players? Expand

Players can be from 5 to 18.

What is the age range for buddies? Expand

We usually ask for buddies to be in middle school or high school. If you have a younger child who would like to volunteer as a buddy, please contact the HIGH 5 coaches at HIGH5@geyasoccer.org. If you are over 18 and would like to be a buddy, you must complete the background checks required by the state of Pennsylvania.

What’s the difference between a player and a buddy? Expand

A player is a participant with a special needs. A buddy is a teenager or adult who works with a player one on one during HIGH 5 sessions.

Is there a residency requirement? Expand

No. No matter where you live, your child can participate in HIGH 5.

How can I help? Expand

You can be: a buddy – working one on one with a player; an activity leader – directing group activities; or a snack helper – you’ll be very popular!

Do I have to know anything about soccer to volunteer? Expand

No! As long you are enthusiastic, patient and love to make kids smile, you can volunteer.

How can I make a donation? Expand

You can mail a check to GEYA Soccer, P.O. Box 164, Uwchland PA 19480 with “HIGH 5” in the notes section or bring it to a session.
