Welcome Parents
One this site, you'll find all the information
you'll need as a parent of a GEYA recreational soccer player. The
Board & Commissioners page describes
the various individuals - and their contact information - responsible
for different aspects of the league. If you have a question not
answered by this website, please feel free to send an email to the
appropriate person listed on that page. The key
dates page lists the important events and dates leading up to
the start of the season. This page details the expectations we have
of you as a parent. The schedules page
details the individual schedules for all teams. The intro
to soccer page gives you information on the basics of the game.
The GEYA rules detail the specific rules
for each division and the soccer fields
page gives directions to each of the various soccer fields used
by GEYA.
Uniforms & Equipment
|
In order to participate in
GEYA, you are required to own one of the blue GEYA reversible
soccer jerseys. These can be ordered when you register your
child and will be distributed to you at the first practice
by your coach.
Your child can wear shorts and socks of any
color although red shorts and white socks are preferred. Your
child must have soccer cleats and shinguards at every game
and practice. |
What to expect once you've signed up
Once registration is finished, the GEYA Soccer
board, the VPs, the division commissioners, the field assignment
director, and the scheduling director spend a significant amount
of time working out the #teams per division, the schedule for the
season, the field assignments, the referee assignments, and assigning
the coaches and assistant coaches for all teams. Once this is complete,
meetings with the coaches are scheduled to talk through the logistics
for the upcoming season. In the younger divisions, the commisioners
and coaches assign the players to the teams and will communicate
the assignment via email or phone at least a week before the first
practice. In the older divisions, a skills combine will be scheduled
to assess the players and help ensure we have balanced and fair
teams. The schedule for the combines will be communicated via email
and will be detailed on the key dates
page of the website. Immediately following the combines, the players
will be assigned to teams and the coaches will communicate the assignment
to the players.
How to be a good GEYA soccer parent
Parent's Responsibilities
The parent or guardian plays a key role in
the development of the soccer player. Obviously the parent or
guardian has tremendous influence on the values, attitude, and
outlook on life that a child develops, including those related
to the playing of soccer.
-
I provide positive support and encouragement
to my child, other players on their team, and to opponents
-
I promote practice at home.
-
As needed, I bring my child to practice (typically
15 minutes early) and games (typically 30 minutes early) on
time.
-
As needed, I notify the coach when practices
or games will be missed or arrived at late.
-
I allow the coach to coach.
-
I allow the players to play.
-
I allow the referee and linesmen to call
the game.
-
I will remember my child made the team,
not me.
-
I support the team by volunteering with
telephone calls, etc.
-
I support the club by volunteering at
signups, tournaments, etc.
-
I am positive and I look for positives
in the coach, players, and referees.
-
I have reasonable and realistic expectations.
-
I remind my child not to get down on
themselves and to keep playing hard.
-
I remember not to take myself too seriously
during the game.
-
I maintain a “Fun is #1”
attitude.
-
I know and understand the rules of the
game. If I don’t understand a rule or call, I ask
someone who knows.
-
I know and follow club rules and policies.
-
I help my child fulfill their obligation
to the team.
-
I encourage my child to talk to the coach
as needed.
-
I am a role model of good sportsmanship
and expect my child to be the same:
-
-
I accept the decisions of officials with
good grace
-
I treat players, coaches, other parents,
opponents, and officials with fairness, generosity, courtesy,
and respect
-
I develop my child’s respect for
the ability of opponents and for the judgement of referees
and opposing coaches
-
I discourage unfair gamesmanship
-
I will not use profanity, abusive language
or negative personal remarks.
- I understand that GEYA Soccer is organized around the principle
of fun for everyone involved.
