2020 Fall Soccer Update
18 July 2020

Good afternoon.

First, I want to thank the 269 respondents to our recent survey, which helped us gauge the interest in a Fall Soccer program. The responses we received were evenly distributed across K-3, 4th – 8th, and 9th – 12th and the majority of those that responded are interested in a Fall Soccer program that features full contact, competitive play.

On July 17th, the GEYA Soccer Board voted 6 to 4 in favor of opening registration for a modified and shortened Fall Soccer program. Registration will open on Sunday, July 19th  and it will close on Sunday, August 9th. This should not be read as a guarantee that GEYA will proceed with a Fall season. Instead, this is a provisional plan, which will be subject to a final go/no go vote by August 12th based on further developments related to COVID19.

We will continue to weigh the prevailing guidance from various authorities including the CDC, the governor of Pennsylvania, local government for Chester Country and UUT, local school districts, US Soccer, and Eastern Pennsylvania Youth Soccer. With their guidance and the data trends that develop in the weeks ahead, we will apply our best judgment as parents, coaches, and members of this community. We aim to serve the soccer families in this community responsibly, with the safety of all participants as our primary concern.

Again, a GEYA Fall soccer program is not guaranteed. The COVID19 situation is fluid and the national trends have been alarming. There is a strong possibility that we will opt for cancelation. Accordingly, we encourage you to explore other options that may offer more certainty than we can offer at this time.

While there are many details for us to work through in the next 3 weeks, these are the broad outlines for the Fall program as of right now:

To avoid the hassle of refunds should we ultimately cancel the season, we will not collect any registration fees until we make a final decision by Aug 12th

If we vote to go hold the Fall season, registration fees will be kept low, as we will only be playing small sided games in a less formal,pick-up type of setting

To keep registration fees low and to minimize the logistical challenges, there will be no uniforms; instead it will be BYO white shirt and dark shirt to each event

Coaches or other volunteers will referee; no formal paid referees

We will follow US Soccer and EPSYA soccer guidelines for returning to play, with details to follow

All participants (players and their families, coaches, league administrators) will have to sign waivers and will be expected to comply with additional safety procedures and protocols, with details to follow

All divisions will likely be run as COED divisions because we expect fewer players to register, but we will adapt as needed when we see the final numbers

Grades K through 3 will be limited to a max of 12 players per field per event (4 v 4 with 4 subs)
Grades 4 through 8 will be limited to a mx of 16 players per field per event (6 v 6 with 4 subs)
Grades 9 through 12 will be limited to a max of 18 players per field per event (7 v 7 with 4 subs)

Be on the lookout for a separate communication regarding GEYA’s HIGH 5 program for special needs children from Coach Jenn and Coach Matt in the next day or so.

Lastly, please understand the amount of additional volunteer support we will require to launch and run this program effectively. Our Soccer Board is comprised of 12 very dedicated people who have served the community for many years, but we cannot pull this off without new volunteers stepping forward. A shortage of volunteers in and of itself may prove to be a deal breaker, so please consider reaching out to us to join the effort.

Cheers,

Jay Janczak
President, GEYA Soccer..

Fall Pre-K Program

GEYA is continuing to partner with YSC Sports to bring outstanding soccer programs to our youngest players. In addition to our popular Stars program (ages 3-4) we are pleased to offer the Kickers program (ages 5-6) for the older kids seeking soccer action!

Soccer Stars: This class is your child’s opportunity to experience soccer through interactive play in a nurturing, fun environment!  This innovative soccer learning class focuses on social and motor skill development incorporating the use of lightweight soccer balls and special equipment designed to enhance the FUN and expedite the learning process.

Kickers: This class is focused on developing individual FUNdamental soccer skills using games and drills to teach those skills.  Players will develop comfort with the ball and familiarity with correct motor skill patterns.  Players will participate in non-competitive scrimmages as well.  This class is a great complement to existing GEYA kindergarten players that have availability during the week.

Program Details:

  • 6 week program begins Thursday, September 19. Ending October 24
  • Classes are Thursdays at 10:00 am or 1:00 pm
  • GEYA Fellowship Field.
  • In the case of inclement weather, classes may be moved to YSC’s indoor soccer facility, 224 County Line Rd, Wayne PA 1908
  • 50 minute class. Cost is $110
  • Wear comfortable clothes. Bring water. Cleats and shinguards are optional. YSC provides balls.

Welcome to GEYA Soccer & HIGH 5 Soccer

GEYA Soccer is an all-volunteer run recreational soccer program for kids in the following divisions:

  • Coed Pre-K & K through YSC
  • Boys’ K, 1st Grade, 2nd/3rd  Grade, 4th/5th Grade & 6th-8th Grade
  • Girls’ K, 1st Grade, 2nd/3rd  Grade, 4th/5th Grade & 6th-8th Grade
  • Coed 9th-12th Grade
  • HIGH 5 Soccer Program for Players with Special Needs

Our soccer program is to teach the younger divisions the basics of the game of soccer, from simple drills to ball control, passing and goal/corner kicks. The upper grade levels may be shown more advanced skills and strategy, which is up to the discretion of our volunteer coaches.

GEYA Soccer focuses on playing soccer for fun and not for competitive reasons. All players receive equal time and attention, and the program is structured to ensure teams are as balanced as possible. GEYA’s core values are the pursuit of excellence in athletics, teamwork, good sportsmanship and friendship. Our dedicated volunteers lead by example to promote confidence, goodwill and leadership in our players.

GEYA Soccer has two seasons of youth rec soccer, one in the spring and one in the fall. The spring soccer season typically runs from early April until early June, and the fall season runs from September until early November.
